A New Beginning

As the end of 2008 approaches so does the presidency of GW. I am definitely in a
good mood over this. President-elect Obama holds out hope for all US citizens.
Hope that we will solve the economic issues we face, hope that affordable health care
is on its way, hope that this great nation can once again become a friendly figure on
the world stage, hope that our incoming president will maintain his calm
thoughtfulness during his administration and will not become defensive or strident,
hope that all US citizens will once again have the chance to have their own American
Dream come true. We deserve it, we want it, it's up to Obama to present it to us.

Personally I have had a terrible year with bad health, but my optimizm is rising once
again as the new year approaches. Let's all get together behind our new president and
give him, as leader of the free world, the respect and support he needs from us.
Otherwise we will create an ineffective office of the President - not a good thing for
any of us.

Bailout Shift

So now the bailouts are being refocused - argued about and generally delayed. How can this be good for the economy? By the time they get around to how the $$$ will be used it will be too late. Sheesh...

Bailouts - Will they Work?

So, this morning I'm watching the news about the planned bailouts of the home lending and auto manufacturing companies. The homeowner can get a better deal under the proposed plan if they are more than 3 months behind on their mortgage payments and own at least 90% of their mortgage!

What th...? You must already have paid at least 90% of your principle or you don't qualify??? That means most homeowners won't qualify. What kind of a bailout is that?

And the auto industry bailout - I know that the industry represents a major portion of our GNP but there seems to be no accountability to make positive changes for the future health of the industry. Business as usual will only create more debt and the need for another bailout at some point in the future. What's the use of that? I suggest the auto bailout be tied to green planning, alternative fuels, energy efficient manufacture and product,... and while they're at it, why not get rid of some of the robots and put some people back to work?

Sound reasonable to you?

Obama/Biden Win Election!

Barack Obama and Joe Biden win the two highest offices in the land with a huge margin of electoral votes and a landslide in the popular vote. This great nation has proved that it can lift itself out of the mire of government as usual and vote for change, vote for hope, vote for a team who WILL make the entire world a better place in which to live.

Here are some short explanations of what President-elect Obama's plans are;

Obama's Stance on the Economy

Barack Obama has offered a detailed plan to get America’s economy back on track, by creating new jobs and easing the burden on hardworking Americans by offering middle-class tax cuts.

Obama's Stance on Education

Barack Obama puts children first by investing in early childhood education, making sure our schools are adequately funded and led by high-quality teachers, and reforming No Child Left Behind.

Obama's Stance on Energy

Barack Obama will invest in alternative fuels and renewable energy, including a plan to increase America’s energy efficiency and create 5 million new “green” jobs.

Obama's Stance on Ethics

Barack Obama has been a leader on government transparency – refusing to take donations from lobbyists or PACs, improving disclosure and creating a database where the public can track federal contracts and earmarks.

Obama's Stance on Foreign Policy

Barack Obama will continue the long American tradition of smart diplomacy to keep the country safe while improving America’s standing in the world.

Obama's Stance on Health Care

Barack Obama’s health care plan will provide accessible, affordable coverage for all, and it will reduce health care costs for families.

Obama's Stance on Homeland Security

Barack Obama supports increased security measures for our airports, ports, and land borders, part of a national plan to protect American’s infrastructure and keep our communities safe.

Obama's Stance on Iraq

Barack Obama will work with his military commanders to responsibly end the war in Iraq. Obama will refocus our resources on al Qaeda in Afghanistan and finish the fight with the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11.

Obama's Stance on Seniors & Social Security

Barack Obama is committed to ensuring Social Security is protected and viable for this generation and the next. And Obama will eliminate income taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 -- benefiting more than 7 million seniors.

Obama's Stance on Taxes

Barack Obama provides a middle class tax cut for 95 percent of American workers.

Obama's Stance on Veterans Affairs

Barack Obama supports our troops – both in combat and at home. He voted to provide armored vehicles and body armor for our troops fighting abroad, and will fully fund veterans’ medical care and restore competence to VA planning to ensure our veterans have the resources they need when they return home.

Obama's Stance on Women's Issues

Barack Obama works for America’s women – supporting a woman’s right to choose, equal pay for equal work, expanding the childcare tax credit and paid sick leave for parents.

Obama's Stance on Faith

In June of 2006, Senator Obama delivered what was called the most important speech on religion and politics in 40 years. Speaking before an evangelical audience, Senator Obama candidly discussed his own religious conversion and doubts, and the need for a deeper, more substantive discussion about the role of faith in American life.

Obama, McCain vie for a changing South

By GROMER JEFFERS JR. / The Dallas Morning News

CONCORD, N.C. – Barack Obama's journey to the White House could include winning Southern states, a road less traveled by Democrats.

While the heart of Dixie is still a stronghold for Republicans, Mr. Obama has created openings in upper Southern states such as North Carolina, where the contest with John McCain is a dead heat, and Virginia, where polls have shown Mr. Obama holding a consistent lead.
